Nothing like late night Thai to soak up the alcohol!
(more info after the jump)
Sanamluang (which means “King’s Park” or “King’s Grounds”) is a Hollywood main stay with street cred not only among late night denizens, but also with the Michelin guide (see above).
No, it isn’t starred, but it is recommended both by the guide and, well, this blog. Nevertheless, how many hole-in-the-walls eateries do you know mentioned in this prestigious book? Not too many.
Let me tell you what we ordered that night ….
After staring aimlessly at the menu for about 10 minutes with our martini goggles, we decided to start off the evening with the shrimp cakes (above). This appetizer could have easily been a bland, bar food type of fare. However, Sanamluang’s version has a fresh, shrimp finish that makes theirs superior to others that we’ve ever had. A quick dip in the accompanying chili sauce brings to an even higher, delicious level.
My friend ordered the tried and true Thai noodle dish, Pad See Ew (above). Sure, it isn’t daring. But, I have to say this is one of the best renditions of this item that I’ve had at any Thai restaurant. The smokiness from the sauce gives it a luxurious finish and the fresh, crisp veggies makes this one of the best Thai Town.
Since I’m trying to incorporate more greens in my diet, I opted for the Pad Prik Khing (above) with chicken, of course. GOD I LOVE THIS DISH!! Although it was on the greasy side, that mound of rice you see in the back just soaked up all that goodness and softened the otherwise oiliness of the plate.
Since the Bitchy Boyfriend was feeling a bit under the weather, he decided to order soup. In this case, he ordered their Tom Kha Ghai (above). Not much to write home about here. Don’t get me wrong: it’s pretty good and it does the trick. Just don’t expect to be blown away.
A couple of things about this place. They only take cash and parking is a bitch. But, if you can get past that you’re in for a great Southeast Asian journey.
