I really don’t.  I just don’t get it.

Roscoe's Fried Chicken

Over the weekend, a few of us decided to visit a local and VERY POPULAR eatery called Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach, CA. If you’re in the Southern California area and you’ve tried to eat here on a weekend during brunch hours you can easily expect to wait about 45 minutes to an hour for a seat.

On this occasion we naturally ordered their specialty, chicken and waffles.

Roscoe's Waffles

The chicken we had was somewhat flavorless and the white meat was drier than British humor… and, that’s pretty dry.  As for the waffles?  It was… well…. waffles.  What you see above is really what you get.

I’d hate to say it, but I still prefer the fried chicken at Popeye’s.  And, as for the waffles, they’re virtually the same thing you can get over at Denny’s.

So, why are people lining up to get in?  Perhaps it’s nostalgia?  Perhaps people don’t know better?  Or, maybe they just don’t care?

As for us, we decided to drop by just for a chance to catch up with some old friends…. an occasion that is ALWAYS delicious.

  1. Finally, someone agrees with me. I’ve never understood the popularity of any of their locations either. I’ve never really understood the chicken and waffles combo either. It’s not one of those great unusual marriages like pretzels and chocolate or strawberries and champagne.

  2. I would understand the unusual marriage more if it was a spectacular fried chicken and a drop-dead amazing waffle — but they aren’t!
